Abstract:
To provide a metal-coated magnesium wire suitably available as a hydrogen storage material and a production method thereof.SOLUTION: A metal-coated magnesium wire 1 comprises: a core material 2; and a metallic outer covering layer 3 with which an outer peripheral surface of the core material 2 is covered. The outer covering layer 3 has a hydrogen permeable performance under atmospheric pressure. The core material 2 is composed of an assembly of a plurality of coated filaments 4. Each of the coated filaments 4 is formed by coating a filament body 41 composed of magnesium or a magnesium alloy with a coating layer 42. The coating layer 42 has a hydrogen permeable and oxygen non-permeable performance under the atmospheric pressure. The coating layer 42 is composed of such a metallic material as causes no interdiffusion between the metallic material and the filament body 41.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
