Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a collector excellent in power of combining with metals, such as Hg, Cd, Pb, and Zn, by using a polymer containing a specified amount of polyallylamine units having thiourea groups. SOLUTION: This collector comprises a polymer containing 1-100% units represented by formula II, which are derivatives of units represented by formula I, and 99-0% units represented by formula I and/or derivatives of units represented by formula I (provided the units represented by formula II are excluded) and is prepared by converting polyallylamine, obtained by polymerizing allylamine, into a hydrochloride and reacting the hydrochloride with ammonium thiocyanate to substitute active H atoms bonded to N atoms in repeating units represented by formula I constituting polyallylamine with thiourea groups. Since the collector is excellent in metal-collecting power even under acidic conditions and is high in power to penetrate into solid wastes, it is useful for collecting metals in waste water, solid wastes, and waste gases.
