To provide a metal complex having excellent carbon dioxide-separating performance.

The metal complex comprises: at least one metal ion selected from metals that belong to Group II and Group VII to XII of the periodic table; a lewis-base anion; and an organic ligand capable of bidentate coordination to the metal ion, wherein the organic ligand is expressed by the general formula (I).
