PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an antifouling metal-contg. resin compsn. which undergoes a suitable degree of hydrolysis in sea water to be dissolved. has an antifouling capability controllable for a long term, and does not depend on a high-cost triorganotin.
SOLUTION: This compsn. comprises an acrylic or polyester resin having at least one group represented by the formula:-X-[-O-M-R]x at the terminal of at least one side chain and having a metal content of 0.3-20 wt.% and an org. solvent capable of dissolving the resin. In the formula, Y is a group represented by formula I or II; M is Zn, Cu, or Te; x is 1 or 2; R is an org. acid residue represented by formula II, IV or V; and R1 is a monovalent org. residue. The number average mol.wt. of the resin, though not specifically limited, is pref. 4,000-40,000 for the use as an antifouling coating material.
