To produce simply and conveniently a near-infrared-absorbing highly sol. phthalocyanine compd. having high lightfastness by reaction a metal salt with a phthalocyanine compd. having a substituent capable of coordinating with a metal on the benzene ring.
A phthalocyanine compd. reacted with a metal (e.g. copper of zinc) salt has at least one substituent capable of coordinating with a metal, and there is no limitation on other substituents. Examples of such a substituent are the one having no amino, amide, diazo, thiol, hydroxyl, carbonyl, or carboxyl group, the one having a polyethylene glycol chain, and the one having a polyethylenediamine chain. A substituent having a nitrogen-contg. group, such as an amino or amide group, is pref. Stll pref. substituents are aminothiophenol deriv. groups represented by formulas I and II (wherein R1 and R2 are each H, a halogen, an alkyl, an aryl, an alkoxy, or an aryloxy; and Y1 to Y3 are each H, an alkyl, an aryl, an alkylcarbonyl, or an arylcarbonyl).
