Abstract:

PURPOSE: To increase the discharge capacity and enhance the cycle life of a battery by press bonding to a metal current collector made of an expanded metal a sheet preliminary molded by means of kneading of powders of a hydrogen absorbing alloy, so as to form a metal hydride electrode.

CONSTITUTION: MmNi3.5, Co0.7, and Al0.8 are combined into a hydrogen absorbing alloy and the alloy is pulverized and subjected to electrodeless nickel plating. Further a PTFE dispersion is added thereto and the mixture is kneaded and formed into a sheet 1 by preliminarly molding and this electrode sheet press bonded to both sides of a nickel expanded metal 2 by a hot roller press 3 is used as a negative electrode. The negative electrode is put on a sintered nickel positive electrode via polypropyrene woven fabric and the electrodes are spirally wound to form a sealed battery. Thereby the battery is allowed to have large discharge capacity, high discharge voltage and high cycle life and also the utilization factor of the material can be heightened.
