PURPOSE: To obtain the title metal mold having superior lubricity, heat resistance, releasability of the mold, and wear resistance by constituting the inside surface of the metal mold for forming glass of a coating film contg. dispersed graphite particles in a matrix consisting of a Ni-based alloy.
CONSTITUTION: 5W70wt% graphite having 0.3W90μm particle size and a surface active agent are added to a base plating bath such as Watt bath or sulfamic acid bath contg. 0W40wt% Ni-compd. and at least one metal element selected from P, B, Co, Mo, Cr, W, and Fe to obtain thus a plating bath contg. dispersed graphite. Then, a metal mold 1 for forming glass is dipped in the bath in such a manner that the metal mold 1 is arranged as a cathode and Ni is arranged as an anode, both facing each other. By passing electric current through the mold, coating film 2 having 10W600μm thickness and contg. graphite particles 4 in a matrix Ni or Ni-based alloy 3 is formed on the inside surface of the mold 1.
