Title:
METAL NONWOVEN FABRIC AND METHOD FOR PRODUCING THE SAME
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3282443
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To provide the metal nonwoven fabric capable of being suitably utilized as an electrode for a battery, a catalyst, a filter, etc., and to provide the method for producing the nonwoven fabric.
CONSTITUTION: A carbon nonwoven fabric comprising carbon fibers 1 mutually bound with a resin is thermally treated to carbonize the resin. Thus, electroconductivity is given also to the fiber-binding parts, and fine (preferably 0.5-1.5μm) projections and depressions are formed on the surfaces of the carbon fibers and the binding resin. Then, a plated metal layer 2 is formed on the carbon nonwoven fabric by a direct electric metal-plating method to prevent the adhesion of impurities to the surfaces and the treated carbon nonwoven fabric is subjected to a roasting treatment to form the aggregate of the hollow metal fibers 4, thus obtaining the metal nonwoven fabric wherein the inner hollows of the fibers are communicated to each other at the bound parts of the fibers.
