PURPOSE: To produce a metallic carrier capable of joining without inserting a brazing filler metal and without using a high vacuum furnace and free from the generation of thermal fatigue in a joining position at the time of forming the metallic carrier for catalytic device used for an exhaust gas purifying device of internal combustion engine and formed into a honeycomb body.
CONSTITUTION: The honeycomb body is formed by laminating a corrugated plate material 40 and a flat panel material 20 made by covering the surface of a stainless steel having Ni group or Fe group with a Ni-Cr-B-Si based self- melting alloy layer by ion plating method and winding the laminated material into roll state to form a honeycomb body and heating and joining the honeycomb body in the air to form the metallic carrier 50. The joining strength at a joining part 4 is increased by applying an intermediate layer of an Al oxide coating film between the metallic plate and the self-melting alloy layer.
