PURPOSE: To obtain a metallic carrier excellent in ability to prevent disconnection between both elements of a X-lap type metallic honeycomb body and a metallic casing and excellent in durability in the center part of the metallic honeycomb body and economy in the metallic carrier composed of the metallic honeycomb body and the metallic casing.

CONSTITUTION: In the metallic carrier composed of the metallic honeycomb body XH for carrying an exhaust gas purifying catalyst and the metallic easing C for housing the metallic honeycomb body, (1) both structural elements of the metallic honeycomb body XH and the metallic casing C are fixed to each other from the outside of the metallic casing C by the beam welding method. (11) The structural member of the metallic honeycomb body XH or the structural member and a part of the inside wall surface of the metallic easing C is fixed at least at one end surface of the metallic honeycomb body XH housed in the metallic casing C from the outside of the end surface by beam welding method.
