PURPOSE: To obtain an economical metallic support comprising a metal honeycomb and a metal casing which has a good component separation preventive function and the durability of the central part of the metal honeycomb.

CONSTITUTION: In a metal support MS comprising a metal honeycomb H1 for supporting a catalyst for purifying exhaust gas and a metal casing C in which the honeycomb H1 is placed, both components of the metal honeycomb and the metal casing are fixed by beam welding from the outside of the the metal casing. At least in one end surface of the metal honeycomb, the composition member of the metal honeycomb or the composition member and at least a part of the inner wall surface of the metal casing are fixed by beam welding from the outside of the end surface.
