Title:
METHANATION PROCESS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS60190726
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To improve the selectivity of methane in the reaction of carbon monoxide with hydrogen, easily, by contacting the raw materials with hafnium oxide.

CONSTITUTION: Methanol is produced by contacting carbon monoxide and hydrogen with hafnium oxide preferably at 300W500°C, especially at 320W440°C under a pressure from negative pressure to several tens atm. The hafnium oxide can be produced industrially by dissolving a water-soluble hafnium compound, e.g. hafnium oxynitrate, etc. in water or in a mixture of water and an organic solvent, adjusting the pH of the solution to preferably 6W9 with ammonia, etc., and calcining the precipitate at 200W850°C after washing and drying. The volume ratio of H2/CO is preferably 1/1W10/1.
