Title:
METHANOL REFORMER IN FUEL CELLS
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPS6469501
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To carry out smooth vaporization of the methanol-water mixture and to promote reformation of the vaporized gas, by providing a part of the path for feeding the methanol-water mixture as a preheater on the outer wall of the vessel.

CONSTITUTION: The methanol reformer including the combustion zone 4 and the reformation zone 5 is provided, on the outer wall 12 of the vessel, with a preheating path 13 constituting a part of the path for feeding the methanol- water mixture to the reformation zone 5. The methanol-water mixture is fed by pump 3 from the tank 1, and heated, while it passes through the preheating path 13 in the annular chamber, with the heat from the combustion zone 4, then fed through the outlet 16 into the reformation zone 5. When the temperature of the mixture (the outer temperature) is -20°C, the outlet temperature of the preheater 13 rises up to about 60°C and the mixture is rapidly vaporized in the evaporator of the reformer 5. The vapor is reformed, while it passes through the catalyst 1.
