PURPOSE: To match easily a geometrical optical center and an electron beam position with high accuracy and to enable welding with high accuracy and high quality by controlling the adjustment of beam alignment by a computer.
CONSTITUTION: Since a joint 12 and the X-axis of an alignment coil 34 are in alignment, the Y coordinate values of the central position of a scanning electron beam are respectively Y1, Y2. When a test piece 6 is rotated 90° by a turntable 21 to scan the electron beam in the X-axis direction, the X-coordinate values of the central position of the scanning electron beam are x1, x2. The irradiating position of the electron beam by passing the current having positive and negative polarities to a converging coil 3 coincides with the central position of the scanning electron beam and is therefore made x1, y1, x2, y2, respectively with the coordinate display of the coil 34. If the current (x1+x2)/2.K is passed to the X-axis of the coil 34 and the current (Y1+y2)/2.K to the Y-axis, the irradiating position of the electron beam is made coincident with the geometrical optical center of an electron beam welding machine. K is a constant.
