Title:
METHOD OF ADJUSTING BACK-PRESSURE TRAFFIC IN PACKET SWITCHING NETWORK
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JPH088973
Kind Code:
A
Abstract:
PURPOSE: To restrict the number of overflowed packets by transmitting data queued to the following switching element by responding to a fact that occupa tion of local buffer memory exceeds a threshold value. CONSTITUTION: A receiving packet is multiplexed 210 to higher speed and inputted in a shared memory structure 215. Each of all the packets directed to an output line in demultiplexer switching elements 325 and 330 through output queues 305 and 310 is routed by the structure 215. And once the occupation of the local buffer memory in the structure 215 exceeds the threshold value, a backpressure signal is ignored and the stored packet is transmitted to the switching element 325 at a crowded state. In this case, the queued data is transmitted to the element 325. The packets with no place to be stored is dropped and pieces of information included in the packets are lost in the element 325.
