Title:
METHOD FOR ALKYLATING SIDE CHAIN OF ALKYL-SUBSTITUTED AROMATIC HYDROCARBON
Document Type and Number:
Japanese Patent JP3548599
Kind Code:
B2
Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a new process for alkylating a side-chain alkyl group of an alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon with an aliphatic monoolefin, especially a process for producing industrially useful 2-methyl-1-(p-tolyl)-butane in high selectivity by butylating the side chain of p-xylene with butene.
CONSTITUTION: An alkyl-substituted aromatic hydrocarbon and an aliphatic monoolefin, especially p-xylene and butene are made to react with each other in an atmosphere essentially free from oxygen, water and carbon dioxide gas in the presence of a catalyst prepared by using a heat-treated hydrotalcite as a carrier, supporting an alkali metal on the carrier by impregnation method using a liquid ammonia solution of an alkali metal and heat-treating the product in vacuum.
