Abstract:
PURPOSE:To miniaturize an optical repeater and to improve the reliability thereof by composing and amplifying signals inputted from an up-transmission path and a down-transmission path so that they become perpendicular each other after they are separated to the single component of a polarization plane, separating them again and respectively transmitting them to the up-transmission path and the down- transmission path. CONSTITUTION:The optical signals respectively inputted from the up-transmission path and the down-transmission path with the wavelength of lambda0 are respectively separated to the optical signal having the single component of the polarization plane by a first polarization plane separator 10 and a second polarization plane separator 20. Next, two optical signals are multiplexed by an optical multiplexer 30, inputted to an optical amplifier 40 and amplified. Then, the optical output of the separator 10 and the optical output of the separator 20 are multiplexed so as to be perpendicular each other. Continuously, the output of the amplifier 40 is separated to the output component of the separator 10 and the output component of the separator 20 again by an optical demultiplexer 50 and the respective components are transmitted to an up-line and a down-line. Thus, the number of parts which are used is reduced and the repeater is miniaturized.
