Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for analyzing a trabecular bone structure which is useful for judging the therapeutic effects or the improving effects of a therapeutic agent for osteoporosis or a supplement for the bone clinically.
SOLUTION: An X-ray image of a bone is entered into a computer (steps S20 and S30). Bone structure components are extracted by a morphological filter from the X-ray image and a multilevel image of the bone structure is obtained (steps S40 and S50). The multilevel image of the bone structure is binarized (steps S60 and S70) and parameters of the bone structure are calculated from a binary image of the bone structure using bone morphometry (step S80). The parameters of the bone structure thus calculated are precise, because loss or modification of information of the bone structure during processing seldom occurs.
