To provide a method and a apparatus capable of efficiently cleaning a contaminated ground by volatile substances even in the case where a building stands on it.
A pair of horizontal wells 4, 5, made of an air permeable or a water permeable casing pipe 6. opposed to each other while clamping the contaminated ground 3 by a volatile substance in a ground 1 is established. A plane-like air stream 7 is formed between a pair of wells 4, 5 in the ground 1 by making one well 4 of a pair of wells to a negative pressure and feeding an air to the other well 5 of a pair of wells. The volatile substance in the contaminated area 3 crossing the plane-like air stream 7 is recovered from the negative pressure well 4. Preferably, a high temperature air or a steam is fed into the other well 5 of a pair of wells to heat the contaminated area 3 crossing the plane-like air stream 7. More preferably, a direction of the plane- like air stream 7 is varied by appropriately switching the negative pressure well 4 and the air-fed well 5. The negative pressure well 4 and/or the air-fed well 5 can be made to a plurality of horizontal wells.
