To provide a method for collecting vapor-grown carbon fibers and an apparatus therefor enabling the vapor-grown carbon fibers to be efficiently and continuously mass-produced over a long period of time.
The method comprises feeding a filter material in an inert gas atmosphere with the vapor-grown carbon fibers and removing the carbon fibers stuck to the surface of the filter material off the surface and collecting them. In this method, the carbon fibers are continuously produced using a relevant production system including a vertical reaction unit where the vapor-grown carbon fibers are formed in a suspended state in the vapor phase in a reaction tube and a gas containing the resulting carbon fibers and a guiding gas surrounding the former gas are discharged out of the reaction tube and a discharge unit functioning to discharge the carbon fibers from the reaction tube with the help of a driving source gas.
