To provide a method and an apparatus for drying a coating film capable of remarkably suppressing its unevenness that may arise immediately after coating in an early drying stage and uniformly drying a coating film without changing the physical property of a coating liquid such as viscosity and a species of a solvent.
The method for drying a coating film comprises surrounding the surface of a coating film to be dried disposed on a traveling web 12 with a drying zone 14 disposed immediately after coating. In the drying zone 14, a normal wind drying process is carried out for drying the surface of the coating film by causing the web 12 to travel through a normal wind zone 35 that supplies wind for drying flowing in one direction from one end of the web 12 to the other end in its width direction, and an opposite wind drying process is carried out for drying the surface of the coating film by causing the web 12 to travel through an opposite wind zone 37 that supplies wind for drying flowing in another direction from the other end of the web 12 to the one end in its width direction, namely in the direction opposite to the wind direction in the normal wind zone 35.
