PURPOSE: To prevent the loss of time and reduction of productive efficiency due to the interruption of printing by a method in which while printing in specific printing units of plural printing units is continued, the printing plates in the other printing units are exchanged.
CONSTITUTION: When printing plates for printing units 10c and 10d are exchanged, electromagnetic clutches 40 for printing units 10c and 10d are energized electrically and the transmission of power from a line shaft 30 is discontinued. A pressure cylinder 48 is separated from a plate cylinder 42 and raised, and the belt 46 attached to printing plates is exchanged. Even during the exchange operation of the printing plates, printing in the other printing units 10a and 10b is continued under the usual condition. After the ending of the exchange of printing plates, the clutches are switched and printing is started by the printing plates newly exchanged. At the same time, the operations of the other printing units 10a and 10b are stopped and exchanged with the operations of the printing units 10c and 10d.
