To execute a handover in a radio communication system including a long-term evolution (LTE) network of a third-generation partnership project (3GPP), at least one alternative wireless network, and a wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU).

A 3GPP LTE network transmits an instruction of availability of an alternative network in an area where a WTRU is located, or a list of available alternative networks. The WTRU receives information and starts procedures of a handover to the alternative wireless network on the basis of the information. The WTRU is capable of requesting the list of alternative wireless networks from the 3GPP LTE network or transmitting capability information to the 3GPP LTE network. The alternative wireless network may be a 3GPP network, an interoperating wireless local area network (I-WLAN) or a static broadband network.
