To provide a filtration method which can reduce the turbidity of treatment water enough and the amounts of backwash water to be used for the backwashing of a filtration means and backwashing wastewater to be discharged when suspended solids in raw water are removed and an apparatus for the method.

The filtration apparatus 1 has fiber filtration means 2 having a filtration tank 6 and a fibrous body 7 arranged in the tank 6, a membrane filtration means 3 which is connected with the fiber filtration means 2 and removes the suspended solids in primary treatment water treated by the fiber filtration means 2, the first backwashing means 4 for backwashing the membrane filtration means 3 by secondary treatment water treated by the membrane filtration means 3, and the second backwashing means 5 for backwashing the fiber filtration means 2 by backwashing wastewater discharged from the first backwashing means 4.
