Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide a method and an apparatus for infrared heating of preforms of a plastic material, especially PET, used for production of containers with reduced processing time and reduced consumption of electric energy.
CONSTITUTION: The infrared radiation includes the first band B1 containing a wavelength which is absorbed by the plastic material and the second band B2 containing a wavelength which reaches the inner space of the preform without being absorbed by the plastic material. The wavelength existing in the second band B2 of the infrared radiation reaching the inner space is converted to the radiation L3 with the wavelength in the first band B1 The infrared radiation 13 with the converted wavelength is re-emitted toward the preform wall 2, absorbed by the plastic material near the preform wall 8, and heats it up so that the temperature Ti of the inner surface is higher than the temperature Te of the outer surface of the wall 2.
