To reliably, easily, and visually detect minute defects 6z existing in a transparent body 6, such as glass panel for a cathode-ray tube, for obtaining a flickering phenomenon by utilizing effective optical characteristics.
A method for illuminating a site 6a to be inspected in the transparent body 6 with a light, that is emitted from a light source 2 for viewing the transmission light from a side opposite to the light source 2, and a method for illuminating the site 6a to be inspected in the transparent body 6 with light via a stripe lattice 6a are adopted. The stripe lattice 4 and the transparent body 6 are moved relatively so that one point in the site 6a to be inspected in the transparent body 6 crosses the stripe lattice 4, and at the same time, the minute defect 6z appear as luminescent points for increasing or reducing the luminance.
