Abstract:
Finely divided alumina particles are prepared by combining a hydrogen-containing gas stream containing aluminium chloride in a burner with an oxygen-containing gas stream and the alumina particles formed in an ignited flame are collected and alumina particles of the alpha-modification are prepared by combining a hydrogen stream which is saturated with aluminium trichloride by passing it over aluminium trichloride heated to a temperature in the range from 100 to 400 DEG C concentrically with an oxygen stream and collecting the alumina particles formed at the end of the luminous flame by means of an apparatus.
