PURPOSE: To provide method and apparatus for automatically measuring the parameters, e.g. thickness in the radial direction, of a hollow tubular object, e.g. a bored round billet.
CONSTITUTION: The cross-sectional image 6a of an object, i.e., a bored round billet 6, is picked up by means of a CCD camera 2. The image is fed to an image processor 3 where the centers O, O' of outer and inner peripheral circles on the cross-section of the billet 6, the distance Δ between the centers O, O', and the thicknesses TMAX, TMIN at two points where the line (l) connecting the centers intersects the outer peripheral circle. The TMAX represents the maximum thickness whereas the TMIN represents the minimum thickness and the maximum thickness is determined from the difference between them. Furthermore, the intersections of the line (l) and the inner and outer peripheral circles are determined thus determining the positions of maximum and minimum thickness.
