Abstract:

To stably perform the supply a cold iron source from a preheating chamber to a melting chamber when the cold iron source in the melting chamber is melted and tapped off by using an arc melting apparatus having the preheating chamber directly connected with the melting chamber while keeping the state that the cold iron exists continuously in the preheating chamber and the melting chamber.

The melting apparatus 1 is provided with the melting chamber 2, the shaft type preheating chamber 3 directly connected to the upper part of the melting chamber and preheating the cold iron source 16 with exhaust gas produced in the melting chamber, electrodes 6, 7 for generating the arc, a cold iron supplying means 15 for supplying the cold iron into the preheating chamber so that the cold iron exists continuously in the preheating chamber and the melting chamber, plural sets of pushers 12 capable of being advanced into/retreated from the preheating chamber and being operated so that at least one set of pusher exists at the waiting position when other pushers exist in the preheating chamber, and a tapping hole 13 for tapping the molten iron 17. The cold iron source is melted with the arc 19, and at the point of time when a prescribed quantity of molten iron is stored in the melting chamber, the molten iron is tapped off in the existing state of the cold iron in the melting chamber and the preheating chamber.
