To provide a method and apparatus of network management using signal parameters operating as a perceived signal to noise indicator in preference to an RSSI that poses certain serious limitations.

The method and apparatus of network management is disclosed. A perceived indicator for providing physical layer measurements in a multitude of stations in the network either by way of radio frequency power or observed signal to noise plus interference (PSNI) from each access point is used to report the measurements, to collect the measurements to optimize the network or network performance. Furthermore, the reported PSNI values are used as a signal quality indicator of delivered bit error rate or frame error rate to evaluate, reconfigure, and manage multiple stations.
