Abstract:

To provide a technique capable of reducing equipment cost and operation cost by suppressing generation of by-products in a reaction process for performing hydrogenation reaction of 3-HPA.

There is provided a method for continuously producing 1,3-propanediol by subjecting 3-hydroxypropionaldehyde to hydrogenation reaction, where the ratio (L/D) between the tube length and the bore of a fixed-bed catalytic reactor for performing hydrogenation reaction is set to 5 to 100 and in the reactor, the space velocity is adjusted to 1 to 6 h-1, the temperature is adjusted to 50 to 100°C and the pressure is adjusted to 10 to 17 MPa.
