Abstract:

To provide a method and an apparatus for providing audible calling subscriber identification on call waiting service.

This method includes steps of: receiving a call setting message arrived at a called subscriber's terminal when the called subscriber's terminal is presently busy; determining whether the called subscriber has already been registered in a calling subscriber identification audio service; and transmitting audible calling subscriber identification to the called subscriber's terminal. By this method, a user of a packet exchange network service, e.g. a VoIP network service can hear a tone just like a very gentle whisper to inform as to who is the calling subscriber during calling. The tone can be heard by only the called subscriber, and audio path during calling is characterized in that it is not canceled. This characteristic enables the subscribing user to hear their ongoing conversation while receiving the whispering tone.
