PURPOSE: To enhance the superposing accuracy of images of respective colors and to improve the color image quality by moving a recording head at least by the amount corresponding to one picture in the state that a multi-ink sheet and an image receiving material are stopped.

CONSTITUTION: A thermal head 1 is driven and moved to transfer an image of magenta M to an image receiving area of the amount corresponding to one picture of an image receiving sheet 4 and to then similarly transfer an image of cyan C to the receiving area of the amount corresponding to one picture of the sheet 4. The sheet 4 is fed, and cut in the length of folding by a cutter 13. Thus, the head 1 is moved in the state that a multi-ink sheet 2 and the sheet 4 are fixed to transfer to form a color image. That is, the movement and the stop of the head 1 which can improve the mechanically moving and stopping accuracies as compared with the movement and the stop of the sheet 4 are conducted to form a color image.
