Abstract:
PURPOSE: To a bamboo material hard to crack used in a building material or a vase without losing the original gloss and touch of a bamboo by a method wherein the whole bamboo closed at both ends thereof by a joint received in a hermetically closed tank is heated by steam to pressurize the inner wall of the bamboo material by the air in the bomboo material and the pressure in the tank is reduced to be made equal to the pressure in the bamboo material and, thereafter, the bamboo material is cooled.
CONSTITUTION: A steam generator 8 is provided to the inner bottom part of the hermetically closed chamber 3 in a hermetically closed tank and a shelf 9 is provided above the steam generator 8 to stack bemboo materials (whole bamboos) 10 on the shelf 9. The discharge pipe 13 communicating with the hermetically closed chamber 3 is provided to the upper part of the hermetically closed tank and a pressure control valve 14 is attached to the pipe 13. A vacuum pump 15 is provided next to the pipe 13 and a suction pipe is connected to the hermetically closed chamber 3. When steam is generated from the steam generator, the air in the bamboo material 10 expands to compress the inner walls of the bamboo materials 10 to increase the strength thereof. After the bamboo materials are held to high temp. and high pressure for a predetermined time, the pressure control valve 14 is closed and the interiors of the bamboo materials 10 and the hermetically closed chamber 3 are equalized in pressure by the vacuum pump 15 and, thereafter, the bamboo materials 10 are cooled.
