To provide a method and an apparatus for sensing an illegal use of a card for detecting the illegal use of the lost card in a short time if a user has lost the card.

A lost card registering processor 610 is provided in a card information managing apparatus 60. A gate passage checking processor 710 is provided in a ticket examining unit 70. And, a validity checking processor 810 is provided on a card 80. When a lost card is submitted, first an identifier of the lost card is registered with a lost card list (step 611), and transmitted to the examining unit (step 612). As to the card 80, a validity checking processor collates the lost card lit with the card ID by the card itself (step 814). The lost card list of the card 80 is transmitted from the examining unit in the case of passing the gate (step 714). The unit 70 checks a valid/invalid flag transmitted from the card 80 in the case of passing the card 80 (step 713). In the case of the invalid, the card is illegally used and the gate is closed (step 716).
