To provide a method and apparatus for summarizing a plurality of images in which a representative image is selected and summarized out of multiple images in an image reproducing device.
A method for summarizing multiple images includes steps for: inputting a moving image and extracting a base image for each shot; selecting representative images out of the base images corresponding to the shots; and outputting an image summary using the selected representative images. Otherwise, the method includes steps for: inputting still images and selecting representative images in the still images; and outputting an image summary using the selected representative images. An apparatus for summarizing multiple images includes: a representative image selector to which a moving image is inputted, for selecting the predetermined number of representative images; and an image summary generator for inputting and summarizing the representative images. Otherwise, the apparatus includes: a representative still image selector to which still images are input, for selecting the predetermined number of representative images; and a still image summary generator to which the representative images are input, for summarizing the still images and outputting them together with image information.
