PURPOSE: To temporarily stop a driven conveyor disposed on transferring mechanisms by a method wherein one or more supply device(s) is or are arranged near one run and one or more discharging mechanism(s) is or are disposed near other run of the conveyor, two-runs of the conveyor being given different motion characteristics.

CONSTITUTION: A conveyor run 105 is provided with a loop portion determined by a drive wheel 113 and circulating wheel 114. The drive wheel 113 is mounted on a main drive axis 112 disposed in a frame thereof and driven by a motor. The main drive axis 112 is provided with a cam 115 cooperating with a driven roll 116 mounted on a reciprocating plate 107 which is supported with a guide 108 fixed in the frame thereof. The reciprocating plate 107 supports a transferring roll 106 of conveyor runs 104 and 105. When turning the main drive axis 112, the cam 115 is rotated and the reciprocating plate 107 is reciprocated in the direction of both arrows S, the conveyor runs 104 and 105 also being reciprocated. During the desired stopping period of the conveyor run 104, the reciprocating plate 107 is moved in the reverse direction of the conveyor run 104 wherein the conveyor run 104 is moved as if the run 104 were retreated.
