PURPOSE: To thermally dehydrate organic solids having a wide grain size range including fine particle without causing the lowering of the dehydrating efficiency, by a method in which moist organic solids are heated in a non-evaporating atmosphere in a pressure container and then the pressure of the container is reduced from its bottom side.
CONSTITUTION: Brown coal to be dehydrated is charged in a pressure container 1a under atmospheric pressure, preheated, and heated with saturated steam supplied through a pipeline 3a from an outside steam source 11 for dehydration while keeping the moisture pressent in a liquid state. The hot water mixture consisting of condensed water of saturated steam generated then and water removed from the brown coal passes through a drain board 8a and is stored in a hot water reservoir through a pipeline 44a. Evaporation and dehydration of the brown coal in the depressurizing period in the pressure container 1a are performed only in the pipeline 41a provided at the lower part of the pressure container 1a. Since the pressure container 1a immediately after the heating operation is connected with a low-pressure container provided in the preheating process through pipelines 41a, 45a, and 10, the layer of brown coal inside the pressure container 1a is instantaneously exposed to lower pressure toward the lower part of the container, so that moisture arrested among the brown coal particles is purged in a liquid state and goes down through the pipeline 44a to the hot water reservoir 2a.
