To provide a treatment method for an organohalogen compound excellent in economic efficiency, capable of safely treating the organohalogen compound such as polychlorinated biphenyl difficult to dechlorinate in large quantities in a short time by a simple method to detoxify the same, and a treatment apparatus therefor.
The organohalogen compound, a hydrogen donor and an alkali compound are mixed with an inorganic catalyst or charged in a reactor provided with the inorganic catalyst and heated in the presence of the inorganic catalyst while irradiated with microwaves to dehalogenate the organochlorine compound under stirring. The treated mixture is neutralized to be separated into a dehalogenated substance and salt-containing water containing a formed salt. The treatment apparatus for the organochlorine compound is equipped with a dehalogenation device equipped with at least a reaction tank which houses the organochlorine compound, the hydrogen donor, the alkali compound and the inorganic catalyst and has a temperature measuring instrument and a stirring means and a microwave irradiation device capable of irradiating the reaction tank with microwaves, a neutralization device and a separator.
