PURPOSE: To lessen the contamination of a weld zone by mixing plural inert gases, measuring a gas density and air density, comparing these densities and adjusting the gas density in such a manner that the gas density attains the same density as the air density.
CONSTITUTION: At least two kinds of the gases 16 and 18 are introduced into a mixer 12 to form a gaseous mixture. The mixer 12 has plural transmissible disks and the gases are gradually diffused and mixed by passing the gases through these disks. An air measuring tube 50 measures the atmospheric air density of a weld region. A gaseous mixture measuring tube 44 measures the density of the gaseous mixture and a computer 56 compares both densities and manipulates a servo motor 36 in such a manner that the same densities may be attained. Since the density of the gaseous mixture is equal to the density of the ambient atmosphere, the gaseous mixture stays in the weld zone and the contamination of the weld region by the atmospheric air may be prevented.
