To provide a surface material bonding method for manufacturing a member having a surface design (such as, color tone, colored design, pattern, etc.) that changes at an arbitrary position on a three-dimensional base material surface, by bonding the surface material while properly aligning a design change position of the surface material with a desired position on the base material.
The method for bonding the surface material S onto a surface of a base material W includes the steps of: placing the base material W on a jig 5 arranged in a lower chamber 2 and provided with magnetic bodies 6; closing the lower chamber 2 and an upper chamber 1 to hold the cover material S provided with magnetic regions 7; partitioning the upper chamber space K 1 from the lower chamber space K 2 by the surface material S; vacuuming the lower chamber space K2 while the cover material S is heated and softened; and pressuring the upper chamber space K1 to cause the magnetic regions 7 of the cover material S to be magnetically attracted to the magnetic bodies 6, thereby bonding the surface material S to the base material W.
