Abstract:

To provide a method for boring tempered glass, with which no cullet is produced during boring and a smooth bored surface with few microcracks can be obtained.

The method for boring the tempered glass in which a compressive stress layer is formed on the surface of a plate-like glass member includes: forming an initial crack on the inside of a boring scheduled line of the tempered glass; starting internal heating of the tempered glass from a portion of the tempered glass where the initial crack is formed as a starting point; and moving the portion of the tempered glass to be internally heated along the boring scheduled line of the tempered glass to thereby form a bore in the tempered glass.
