PURPOSE: To realize a method for stopping/positioning a carrier in noncontact manner within a short time without causing mis-stoppage of truck even if the wheel diameter thereof varies.

CONSTITUTION: In a carrying system comprising rails 30 laid on the ground side, a carrying truck 24 traveling on the track 30, and means for driving the truck 24, stop position of the truck 24 is determined by the inventive stopping/ positioning method. Two coils 22, 23 are disposed on a line parallel with the rail 30 and two sets of permanent magnets 20, 21 are arranged on the truck 24 side, while opposing the same polarity poles each other, with the central positions thereof opposing to the end parts of the coils 22, 23. Furthermore, a control section 28 for controlling the magnitude and the direction of currents being fed to the coils 22, 23 is provided.
