PURPOSE: To prevent the mutual contact and the collision of steel materials in a heating furnace by calculating a carriable distance of the steel material between mutual walking beam lines and driving the walking beam within this distance, in a steel material heating furnace providing plural lines of walking beam devices.
CONSTITUTION: At the time of heating plural steel materials 6 in the heating furnace 1 providing two lines of walking beam devices X, Y, in the case the carrying speeds of the steel materials differ in both devices X, Y, at first, the positions at both end parts of the steel material 2 in the furnace width direction are detected based on the distance from the furnace walls and also, the pitch in the furnace length direction is measured and the steel materials A, B, C in contact with each other in the width direction are found by the calculation of the interfering position of each steel material 2. Successively, the shiftable distance of the steel materials A, B, C in the furnace length direction is obtd., and after obtaining the distances Y1 and X1 between the steel materials A and B and between the steel materials B and C, respectively, the carriable distance of each of walking beam devices X, Y is obtd. The driving of both walking beams is controlled so that the getting ahead carrying between the steel materials 2 on the lines X and Y does not exceed the operation carrying distance, and the mutual contact of steel materials in the furnace is prevented.
