PURPOSE: To facilitate separation and recovery of secondary metabolite from a culture system, by carrying out tissue culture of plant using liquid culture medium containing a surfactant and culturing the tissue while releasing secondary metabolites of plant out of cell.
CONSTITUTION: A tissue of a plant such as the genus Duboisia, Datura, Scopolia or Hyosyanus, etc., is cultured using a liquid culture medium containing a surfactant and the tissue culture is carried out while releasing secondary metabolites out of the cell. The ratio of the surfactant in the liquid medium is normally about 0.001W10wt% based on the medium and the surfactant is preferably nonionic surfactant. A medium containing inorganic ingredient and carbon source as essential ingredients and obtained by adding plant hormones, vitamins and as necessary amino acids thereto is used as the liquid medium.
