PURPOSE: To obtain a high class steel ingot securing the same grade of the quality of material as an ingot produced by a vacuum casting method, by pouring discharged molten steel into a pouring tube for bottom pouring mold in the condition of sealing argon gas.
CONSTITUTION: After charging base material into a vacuum induction melting furnace 1, melting is started. After adjusting the components, silica sand in a steel tapping hole 3 is rejected. A truck 2 for mounting the induction furnace is shifted to just above the pouring tube 5 for mold. This induction melting furnace 1 is shifted downward so that the distance between the tip part of the steel tapping hole 3 and the pouring tube 5 for mold becomes within about 100mm. Then, while uniformly blowing the argon gas in the peripheral direction of the molten steel stream, the molten steel is cast into the bottom pouring mold 6 through the pouring tube 5 for mold. By this method, the pouring stream is cut off from the air as much as possible and the high quality product of low nitrogen content can stably be produced.
