PURPOSE: To manufacture a plate-like cast iron casting having uniform hardness distribution by forming a product cavity in the vertical direction in a mold, connecting a gate at the lower part side of the cavity and arranging an iron- base metal plate surrounding an inoculant near the gate.
CONSTITUTION: Explanation is executed in a graphic display based on an example adopting a casting planning of bottom pouring type two piece casting. product cavities 1 are formed in the vertical direction in a mold 2, and gates 3 are connected to the lower part sides of the cavities 1. Materials 9 enclosing the calcium-silicon series inoculant with the iron base metal plate are fitted to near the gates 3. Molten metal is poured from a sprue 5 through a runner 4 and the iron base metal plate is melted at the time when the molten metal runs over the whole cavity, and the inoculant in the inner part is floated up to the opposite side of the gate while reacting from the gate side of the cavity in order. The hardness distribution in the casting manufactured in such way is uniformized.
