Abstract:

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for chemically improving a fluorocarbon polymer so as to adhere more tightly to a metal base material by reacting a specific fluorocarbon polymer with an oxidizing agent after partially dehydrofluorinating the specific fluorocarbon polymer using a base.
SOLUTION: A fluorocarbon polymer (A) of the formula (X and X' are each H, a halogen, especially F or Cl, or a perhalogenated alkyl, especially a perfluoroalkyl) is partially dehydrofluorinated using a base (B), and subsequently the resultant polymer is reacted with an oxidizing agent to form another polymer. Thus, the component A is chemically improved. preferably, the component A is in the form of an aqueous dispersion system, for example, emulsion or suspension. Preferably, the oxidation reaction is performed using hydrogen peroxide in a heterogeneous aqueous medium, or using a hypochlorite anion and subsequently an alkali metal hypochlorite having, for example, sodium or potassium, or the like, as a corresponding cation.
