PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To propose a method of cleaning a petroleum refining plant which can effectively and easily clean the plant in a non-opened state, can omit a process step of cleaning the plant with high-pressure water, shortens the downtime of the actual apparatus and is capable of reducing a maintenance cost and increasing throughput.
SOLUTION: The operation of the plant is stopped and after stagnating oil is discharged, the kerosene and gas oil fraction oil for cleaning in a temporary circuiting tank 10 is introduced from a temporary circulating path 15 into a supplying path 6 for the oil to be refined where the oil is fed and circulated in the route of heat exchangers 1a and 1b, heating furnace 2, distillation column 3, heat exchangers 1b and 1a and temporary circulating path 16 to replace the interior of the apparatus. After the start of the circulation, a cleaning liquid is prepared by adding an alkylbenzene-based aromatic solvent from an aromatic solvent supplying path 11 and an anionic surfactant and/or nonionic surfactant from a surfactant supplying path 12 thereto and this cleaning liquid is circulated in the same manner as above, by which the contaminants are dissolved into the cleaning liquid and are thus removed.
