Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To introduce VLIW instruction format having a pair of control bits for discriminating an opportunity for common use of a sub instruction.
SOLUTION: During compiling of VLIW, an instruction is analyzed to discriminate an opportunity for commonly using the sub instruction. Such an opportunity is coded in a control bit of the instruction. Before the instruction is moved into an instruction cache, the instruction is compressed in a new form, and redundant generation of the selected sub instruction is deleted. Specifically, if the sub instruction should be commonly used by function processing units (28) corresponding to respective clusters (26), it is enough for the sub instruction to appear once in the instruction. Redundant generation is deleted. The control bits are decoded during a pause time to path-control a common sub instruction to associated functional processing units.
